Where to Stay in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is compact and mostly flat, with the historic canal belt wrapping around the center and excellent train/bus links from Schiphol. First-time visitors usually do well in the central canal districts, while return visitors often prefer De Pijp or Haarlem for a more local pace. Choose based on whether you want museums and nightlife within walking distance, or a quieter, better-value base.

  • Great independent cafés, boutiques and restaurants
  • Close to the Anne Frank House and Jordaan's markets
  • Trams on Rozengracht are diverted until about 2027, so with luggage a taxi from Centraal is easiest
